You’re invited to join us!!
We have decided to hike the Camino De Santiago in Portugal and Spain!!
We will start the trek from Valenca, Portugal, and end at the Cathedral of St James in Santiago, Spain.
The trek is 121 kilometers.
Ken has planned the trip himself, so it is E A S Y !!! Our shortest day is 1.9 miles, and our longest is 10 miles. We even have a “recuperation” day scheduled in the middle!!
We are calling this camino the “geriatric” camino!! Haha. It will take us 13 days to complete the trek.
We will not be walking with backpacks. Instead, we are hiring a “shlepping” company to transport our luggage from town to town.
We are staying in prearranged accommodations ranging from hostels and alburgas to bed & breakfasts and hotels!
We are extending our time after arrival in Santiago, Spain to include Mass on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Dec 8). On this special day, the cathedral in Santiago will use the world’s largest censer (botafumeiro), or incense burner!! Ken has made it abundantly clear to our family that upon his death, at his funeral Mass, the censer MUST be well lit and smoking!!!
Our travel dates are November 14 to December 12. We will arrive in Lisbon, Portugal, and visit Fatima and Porto before starting the Camino; then, after the trek, we will visit Leon and Zaragoza before finishing in Barcelona, where we will visit the Sagrada Familia.
There are A LOT of details in the map below.
If you’d like to join us, you are VERY WELCOME!! If you would like the itinerary, ask!
