Here We Sit…

Here we sit.

We left our jobs at Wonder Woods RV Park in the Sister Lakes of SW Michigan on November 6th. We stopped for a while in Joliet, IL, to take care of some business stuff, then on to Springfield, IL, to visit with Chris’ mom and family for a week. Then we pointed the truck and RV south toward Texas. We arrived in Pleasanton, TX, on Thursday, November 20.

We travelled 1374 miles from SW Michigan to this location in Texas.

Now we sit and wait. We came to this location because the company that recruited us said that they have a “fracking site” needing guards starting on November 28th. They asked if we could get here sooner, in case the fracking company decided to start on the site sooner, so we arrived early. The day we arrived, we were notified that the fracking company had decided to not start the site until December 1.

UGH!! We, especially Ken, do not do well sitting idle.

So…We reached out to two other gate guard companies to see if they had anything available. Eureka!!! We were offered an oil drilling site in Midland, TX, starting the next morning at 9:00am. We got the offer at 3:30pm, but would still need to meet the recruiter at their office for orientation and then drive 6 hours to Midland. We asked for a later start time so that we wouldn’t need to try to find the site (a pin dropped in the middle of a Texas ranch) in the darkness of night. The recruiter said that they understood and would see about getting us a later start time. When she called back, it was to inform us that they found someone closer to the gate site and that they gave the gate to them. UGH, UGH!!

As it stands at the moment, we have an orientation scheduled with the company that has promised us the 12/1 gate on Monday morning (11/24). Fingers crossed that we can get a gate ASAP! Otherwise, we need to wait until the fracking gate starts on 12/1.

We are staged in their office parking lot. It has full hook-ups at no cost. Really, it is a truck parking lot for one of the water transport companies that work on the fracking sites. It’s not pretty, but it is free and meets our needs.

Halliburton is a large, multinational energy services company that provides products and services for oil and gas exploration, development, and production. They are located on the same site as the Gate Guard Security Company.

That’s us way at the end. The staging grounds can’t compare to a Love’s RV Stop Resort, but they do provide a full hook-up for free while we wait for a gate assignment.
