3rd Workamping Gig!

So…After leaving our last work-camping gig, where did we land?

Silver Wind RV Park & Cabins in Silverton, Texas. We are located in the panhandle of the state.

While working here doesn’t pay any bills, in fact, it doesn’t pay at all!! It is a very nice place, in a small town, with very kind owners. We plan to be here through the end of March. The pluses are that the town of 629 people (2023) has a Dollar General, a library, two gas stations, a post office, and a Catholic Church!!! We are much more at ease here than we were in New Mexico. A huge bonus…The sunrises and sunsets are AMAZING!

Typically, our work-camping requirements for employment are that we receive a full hook-up site free of charge, as well as getting paid an hourly wage for every hour worked. Here at the Silver Winds RV Park, we have a free full hook-up site, complimentary laundry, and we can receive a discount on any meal purchases from the on-site “Briscoe Bite” food truck! But there is no hourly wage paid.

Silverton, Texas is located between two Texas State Parks; Caprock Canyon State Park and Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Both parks have renowned trails, so we plan to hike a bit real soon! We really plan to do this sooner rather than later. Our job in New Mexico was cut much shorter than we had originally anticipated. Because of this we had put off doing much sightseeing. Lesson learned: Don’t put off something for tomorrow when it can be done today. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

We have walked into town a few times so far, just checking things out. There’s honestly not much to check out, but…we walked to Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church one day last week. We tried the door handle and taa daa…the door opened! So we went in, sat down and prayed for you all for a bit. Then on Saturday we drove to Turkey, Texas to Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church for the 6:00pm Mass. When we arrived at the small, adobe church, we were greeted by the priest, Monsignor Meza. We chatted with him and another couple for a bit. We already knew that he was responsible for three churches; the one in Silverton, the one in Turkey and the one in Quidaquay, Texas. We mentioned to him that we had visited Our Lady of Loretto in Silverton and that the doors were left unlocked. He said that his churches are all unlocked and available for personal prayer 24/7!!! He went on to say that sometimes the church in Quidaquay, TX is locked but that the door key is under the flower pot next to the door! After some chatting, he asked Ken if he would do the readings for mass. This isn’t the first time this has happened to Ken!!! Of course he agreed. Funny thing to note…we were the only Anglos in the church. Everyone else was Mexican. The priest said the mass bilingual, every part of it! When mass was over Monsignor Meza publicly thanked Ken for doing the readings and welcomed us to return for future masses. We are 100% sure that if we weren’t there for mass, it would have been said in Spanish instead of bilingual. Haha! All the same, everyone was very kind and welcoming and we were nourished for a week of spiritual battle!

In our last post, we shared that we have an Ama zo n Store (intentionally spaced out) where we can earn commissions. A few people have ordered through our store and so far we have earned $6.14 !!! Woot! You don’t have to buy RV supplies! It is just a pass-through to Ama zo n.

Here are the instructions for the Ama zo n process. It will only take you an extra minute to go through the steps and your purchase doesn’t cost you anything additional!!!

  1. Type into your address bar: www . shamrock rv service .com (You can’t link from FB to the site, otherwise this doesn’t work)
  2. In the menu at the top of the screen, click on STORE
  3. Scroll down and click on ANY item. This will bring you to that product on Ama z on.
  4. Go to the Ama zo n search bar and type in the item that you need to purchase.
  5. Complete your purchase as normal.
  6. That’s it! Once your order ships, we earn a small commission for directing you to Ama zo n through our store.

Now…In the comments below, would you please share: What are you wondering about? What question(s) would you like us to post answers about?

Thanks a million!!!

This is the front of our site. We are at the very end of the campground property.

This is the back side of our site. We haven’t had any neighbors yet. You can see a beautiful sunset in the making!

After searching high, low and in the middle of our 340 sq ft home, we finally found our “states” stickers to add to our map. The only way we put up a state sticker on this particular map is if we have “work-camped” in a state. So on this day, Ken was adding Minnesota, New Mexico, and Texas!

3rd Workamping Gig!

Illinois made the cut because that’s where we are from!! We worked there and we camped there. We just never “work-camped”!

The sunsets here are beautiful.

This is the church in town. We walk there from the campground. It takes us about 20 minutes. Last week the sign looked a bit worn…since then, someone has repainted it!!!

Be sure to look both ways while crossing Lone Star Street (TX-86). You may get hit with a tumbleweed!

This is the “Briscoe Bite”. The owners of the campground also own this food truck. They have a really diverse menu and all at very reasonable prices.

This is the “Cozy Cactus”. It is a 20′ x 8′ shipping container. There isn’t running water in this unit so the renters would use the nearby bath house. There is a plan to run water in the future.

We spend a lot of time in the “Laundry” cabin. There are 5 washers and 6 dryers. The cost for a 37 minute wash is $2, and for a 45 minute dryer is $1.50
The laundry cabin is VERY clean and comfortable. It’s the only laundromat in Silverton! Open 24 hours a day!

This is a business in “downtown” Silverton. We thought it was a funny business model… “Flowers, Gifts and…BEEF”!!!

  1. I’m planning a motorcycle trip from Phoenix back to Huntley Illinois in early April. I’ve been wanting to see Paulo Duo Canyon and now I have another reason to try to work it into my route. Merry Christmas! 🙏♥️🎄
