A Memorable Trip to Nashville, TN

Long Weekend Trip:

This was supposed to be a trip for a long weekend getaway for Chris and I. As it turns out, it turned into a small family reunion with Sheila and Jordan driving from Bloomington, Illinois, Bridget driving from Westerville, Ohio, and Sean and Liam driving from Joliet. Maggie was supposed to fly in from Denver, with her boyfriend Garrett, but had some last-minute change of plans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Trip To Nashville

On Friday evening, after everyone arrived, we went to Broadway Street in Nashville and enjoyed all the music and some good food.  We’ve never seen Broadway and the side streets so empty.  You could find a seat in any honky-tonk that was open.  Several were still closed due to Covid-19.

On Saturday we went hiking at “The Trails at Fontanel,” in Whites Creek, TN, and then for ice cream at Mimi’s (https://www.mimisicecreamandcoffee.com/) on Music Valley Drive. We camped at Two Rivers Campground (https://www.tworiverscampground.com/) just further up Music Valley Drive.

The kids rented a really nice cabin at Nashville RV Resort and Cabins (https://nashvillervresortandcabins.com/), right next to Two Rivers Campground.  We highly recommend both campgrounds. We’ve stayed at Two Rivers four times now.

After breakfast on Sunday, the kids all took to the road and headed home.  Chris and I went looking at new RVs. In fact, we went and looked at new RVs three days in a row!! Later on Sunday evening, we listened to Tim Atwood (www.timatwood.com) on stage at Two River CG.  He was very good and funny too.

On Monday, Chris and I returned to the RV lots to review the rigs we liked, all while keeping the salesman at bay.  Then we hit the road for a trip to Cookeville, TN. Along the drive, we stopped at the Edgar Evins State Park (https://tnstateparks.com/parks/edgar-evins), in Silver Point, TN for a hike. Tennessee has some beautiful state parks and really nice, well-marked, trails.  We then met up with an old friend of thirty years, Cheryl, and her husband Dave.

We had a nice visit and then went to check out the new (under construction) home of our current Joliet neighbor Brigette.  They will soon escape Illinois for beautiful Tennessee. Upon returning to our campground, we stopped at The Caney Fork Restaurant (https://www.caneyforkrestaurant.com/) for dinner. Great place!!! Chris had a bison burger and I had a bbq pulled pork sandwich…Yum!  Back to the campground just in time to hear tonight’s entertainment, Pork McElhinny (https://www.porkm.com/).

On Tuesday we had a lazy day. We returned (once again) to Gander RV and Camping World to check out the RVs and take notes. We went for a walk through the campground a couple of times, updated our travel notes, and basically relaxed. In the evening Chris had an “Up With People” Zoom meeting and then off to see/hear “Amy and Kevin” on stage at the camp store.

On Wednesday morning, we had an RV accomplishment! For the first time since the RV was brand new (2016) our black-tank sensor actually read “empty” when the tank was empty!  We packed up and headed north on I-65.

Thanks for joining us on our trip!

We RVery Blessed!
Chris & Ken
