The Book of Mormon!

Salt Lake City – Touring the Mormon (Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) sites.

Let us begin by saying…We toured these sites; we aren’t converting. Faith is a personal choice; to each their own. This post is not meant to be critical of the Mormon faith.

The story of Joseph Smith and his founding of the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” is interesting, yet puzzling. That being said, our experience was fun and educational. When Brigham Young settled in what would become Salt Lake City, in the valley between two small mountains, he probably never imagined that as the city grew, the LDS church he was sent to establish would wind up owning more than 25% of the land and buildings and the population of the modern city would be between 50-60% Mormon.

We took a guided tour of the LDS Conference center, led by two very kind young ladies who were “on mission” for the church in SLC, from Canada and the Philippines. They were clearly immersed in their faith. They beamed as they spoke of the current prophet and his apostles. They spoke of their love for Jesus Christ. For the novice visitor, their facilities and the people around them are impressive; very impressive, but don’t be misled. One needs to do their own research and discernment to find the truth.

While staying completely respectful, Ken asked an abundance of questions. The two ladies had answers for all of them. Though he saw cracks in their “truth,” his questions surely caused the ladies to think.

We very much enjoyed our visit to the LDS Conference Center and the LDS Tabernacle. The temple was under serious renovation and closed to the public. We aren’t sure, but it may not even be open to the public, or at least certain parts of it may not be.

Check out the pics below as well as the captions. If you ever have a chance to visit SLC, we’d highly recommend it.
