Our RV Story:
Over the years, we have owned several different campers and RVs. The one we currently have is a 2016 Coachman Freelander 29KS. We bough this motorhome brand new in 2016. We went to the Chicago RV Show with our friends, Phil & Ana. When we were planning on attending the show, Ken told Phil to "bring his checkbook" as the hope was that we might consider buying something really nice, but that we might buy it in partnership rather than just the two of us. Sure enough, after looking a SEVERAL different RVs we settled on this one.
While waiting to take delivery of the RV we had an attorney draw up a legal partnership for ownership of the RV. We financed it as two couples. We drew up a document outlining the agreed upon operation of the RV; maximum length of use at a time, storage, selling the RV when the time comes, maintenance fund, etc. Since we took delivery of the RV on April 1, 2016 we have, together, put over 75K miles on the RV and have seen parts of our country that we would NEVER have seen if we didn't buy the motorhome. Each couple has used it almost exactly the same number of times.
We use a Google calendar to "reserve" the RV. We set up a joint bank account where the user of the RV contributes $0.10/mile for future maintenance. If something happens outside of common maintenance, while we are in possession of the RV, it it our responsibility to cover the cost of repair, for example when a rock from a truck cracked the front windshield, or when an oncoming truck's mirror, hit our mirror (twice) or any of the other crazy things that can happen with a house on wheels! We love this RV.
It has help us see so many amazing places and create awesome memories. It is 31 feet long. The "29" in the model number is supposed to indicate the length of living space. The "KS" stands for kitchen slide, as the kitchen and couch are on a slide out allowing for much more living space.
