The “Wonder Woods RV Park & Cabins” is looking great! The hard work of the owners and us is coming to fruition. On that point, let us be clear…yes, we have been doing a lot of work here at the campground, but the owners are right here with us, working even harder to make the campground awesome. We knew what we were getting into and have no regrets.
Two weeks ago, many of the areas of the property were “hydro-seeded”. This sounds great and easy, but it requires A LOT of watering. The daily watering, mostly by hose and hand sprayer, has resulted in really nice green grass. Last week, several areas of the property were professionally landscaped. We still have more infrastructure work to do, but we have definitely turned a page with progress.
Several of the seasonal site RVs have arrived, so Wonder Woods really looks like a campground now.
Chris bought some flowers to “beautify” our campsite. There is a pic below. The “Camp Host” site must look nice, you know!
Ken has been working Thursdays and Saturdays at “The Strand” Brewery & Grill. He is mostly a food expeditor and runner, but occasionally busses tables if necessary. Many of you find this extra work ridiculous, but Ken really enjoys it! Chris will probably start right around Memorial Day. Keep in mind, we didn’t retire from our careers to stop working, we retired from our careers, because we could and we wanted to. Life is short…get out there and experience it!
A couple of weeks ago, we met an old Mount Carmel H.S. classmate of Ken’s and his wife for dinner. They own a summer cottage on Round Lake, which is the lake that our campground overlooks! Dinner lasted four hours!!! Yeah, we had a lot to catch up on. We are looking forward to getting together again!
From the “here’s proof that youre getting old” files, Ken has been dealing with a sore back and hip for about the past six weeks or so (stop shaking your head). He has found a chiropractor and a massage therapist in Dowagiac, MI whom he sees twice a week. He went for a hip X-ray late last week in Mishawaka, IN. We tell you this only to explain the X-ray process… Ken called the local hospital for a quote for a “cash pay” two-view x-ray. The total was $568 minus a 46% cash payment discount for a total of $307. That seemed like a lot, so he checked with our health share ministry – Samaritan Health Share. They have a health care “Bluebook” with the best available prices by zip code. Turns out that there is a “radiology assist” program that operates just like the “laboratory assist” for bloodwork. After a few clicks on the computer, Ken had booked a “walk-in” appointment at Unity Physicians Hospital in Mishawaka, IN for just $92. HOLY SAVINGS! The results came back and reported that Ken’s head was stuck up his a**. But seriously, nothing was out of order, which on that front, is good news. He will see a primary care doctor on Friday just to cover all the bases (and hopefully get some muscle relaxant drugs). So, how does this work with our “Health Share” ministry? We don’t share any of these expenses. The health share program is for major illnesses and diagnoses.
On a more positive note, a couple of weeks ago, Chris took the train to visit her Mom in Springfield, IL, for four days. The Amtrak train runs from Dowagiac, MI (10 miles away) to Chicago, and then on to Springfield. It is an 8-hour journey, but less stressful and cheaper than driving. She has already booked four more trips throughout the summer.
Last week, we had a visitor!!! Our daughter Bridget came to stay with us for four days. It was great having her! She even helped with some of the grass watering at the campground! While she was here, we met Sean (and his girlfriend, Julie) and Liam for dinner halfway between Fort Wayne, IN (where they all live and work) and the campground. We had a great time, and it was so good to see everyone.
That’s about all for this update. Please check out all the pics below and the captions. We love reading your comments, so please make some comments.
Until we chat again, we remain…We RVery Blessed!

Ken and Bridget took a break from watering to play a quick game of pool.

Chris has half of an orange on the hummingbird feeder to attract Orioles. It worked!!!

A robin has an egg in her nest. Sadly, while she was away for a moment, a sneaky squirrel gobbled up the egg!

Bridget took over the “camp office” for four days while she “WFH” (worked from home)!!

This is Ken working as a food runner at The Strand!

Mrs Robin, sitting in her nest, on an egg.

Ken is attaching a counter top to some cabinets in the new work shop (shed).

The weather has been hard on our camp banner. Here we were trying to re-attach it to make it last a little longer.

You can see the Wonder Woods sign in the background. The commute to the Strand is about a three-minute walk.

The owners of WW planted all of these beautiful azaleas around the “game barn.”

Sunset over Round Lake, just across the road from our campground.

Our campsite!

We feel very blessed to be working for two amazing campground owners. They are two very hard-working people!

Check out our new uniform shirts and the “Camp Host” sign!

It may not be the safest way to remove a low hanging branch, but it’s not hanging low anymore!!!

A meeting of the minds for a “corporate meeting”!

Bridget enjoyed doing some watering!

Another pic of our site.

We had our doubts regarding the success of the “hydro-seeding”, but it has started to come in nicely.

Chris at the Dowagiac train station on her way to visit her Mom.

Fringe benefits!!! Donuts and popcorn, compliments of the bosses!

New site signs.

This is how the site signs look after being installed

Chris went around and painted all the water supply spigots.

This is “Chef Hal”. Maggie bakes with him just about every week. Tell us that this pic doesn’t melt your heart!!!

Silly Chef Henry!!

We did an RV inspection on this 2025 Forest River MicroLite travel trailer today!

This past Monday we did an inspection on this 2015 Thor Wind Sport motorhome.
