Water is NOT a friend of an RV!!
If you’ve been following along for a bit, you know that we recently had the entire roof replaced on our 2023 Grand Design fifth wheel. The roof needed to be replaced because of a tiny crack in one of the roof attic vents that, over a short period of time, allowed water to get in and eventually rot a 2’ x 3’ area of the roofing boards. We greatly thank Grand Design for standing behind their product and replacing the entire roof for FREE!
All that is said to make the point that water can do A LOT of damage to an RV in a short period of time. Because we know this, we have eleven portable, battery-operated, water sensor alarms placed strategically throughout the RV. They can sense water from the bottom of the sensor or the top. So far, we have had THREE alarm notifications!!! Two were under the kitchen sink; once the gally holding tank had overfilled while we were “dripping” water so it wouldn’t freeze; and once a connection point started leaking. One alarm was behind the nautilus panel in the water bay. Be sure to look at the pics and captions below to see what this area looks like.
There is an interesting fact about water sensor alarms. They seem to be programmed to only alarm between 11pm and 6am!!! You’ve likely never seen a fat man spring from bed as fast as Ken can/does when he is woken by the shrill beeps of the water alarm. Again, check out the pics below and be sure your volume is up to MAX when you click on the videos. We want you to have the full experience!
Once the weather warmed up this week, Ken was able to remove the water supply line under the kitchen sink and replace the connection. All is nice and dry now.
Though these issues are an annoyance, they come with living in an RV full-time and we wouldn’t change a thing. We say to each other ALL THE TIME, “We love our home!” and we really do!!

We RVery Blessed!

This is one of the eleven water sensor alarms we have in the RV. We have one above the ceiling and 10 under all the supply lines and drains in the RV.

Ken’s “It’s frickin 12*F…how can anything be leaking?” face.

No space in an RV is large. Trying to remove and replace one of the pex supply lines and re-crimp the fastener is no easy job. Peep all the bottles of Holy Water on that little rack!!!

This is the leak that the water leak alarm sensed. The sensor/alarm was directly under the “nautilus” panel. This alarmed at 11:30pm. Yes…we were sleeping!

Do you see that droplet of water on the blue supply line, above the white line?

This is what the back of the “nautilus” system looks like. See where the water sensor/alarm is located?

After building up the courage to cut the supply line, Ken replaced the connection and crimped it on. It’s all good now!

Here is one of the water sensor/alarms under the on-demand water heater. The sensor/alarms don’t cost much, but boy do they work well and provide a sense of peace!
