Earlier in the month we were treated to a delicious steak dinner at The Big Texan Restaurant in Amarillo, TX. The owners of the campground we are working at (and therefore our employers) treated us to a lovely meal.
If you don’t know about the gimmick of the Big Texan, they are the home of the 72oz steak dinner challenge. If you’re up for it, you get the meal for free, but…you must fully consume:
The 72oz steak
A baked potato
A dinner salad
Three jumbo shrimp
A dinner roll
and a beverage of your choice.
A few rules:
You need to clear your plate in no more than 60 minutes.
You can’t stand up
If you puke, you lose
If you lose, you must pay for the meal…$72
While we enjoyed our 8oz steak dinner, two guys took on the challenge. One guy, the guy in the pics failed. The other guy was a returning champion and as we were leaving he was well on his way to another free steak dinner.
This is a fun “must visit” restaurant in Amarillo, TX
Have a look at all that food!!! I asked permission to photograph the guy and his meal.
He couldn’t do it. Here he is showing all that is left. The guy was easily 6’4+.
Both Chris and I ordered the 8oz steak dinner. It was delicious!!! And, we cleaned out plates!!
This man is a returning champion. You can’t see it in this photograph, but he is actually picking up the steak with his hands and eating it like chicken. He was very focused and did not allow himself to be distracted by people who would stop by the stage to talk to him.
The digital countdown clock doesn’t show up very well in the photograph, but the one that says 35 shows that he had 35 minutes left to complete the challenge and when we were leaving more than 2/3 of his meal was consumed.
Thanks David and Lisha for a great evening out and a delicious meal. Don’t forget our rain check for dessert!! Haha
Ken and his buddy, Bear!
