People always have lots of questions about living on the road full-time. We enjoy answering them. One question that comes up a lot is, “Can you vote and do you even bother?”
Yes and Yes!
Too many people have died for the good of our country, and for our rights and freedoms, that it would be disrespectful to them to not exercise our right and privilege to vote.
We will vote using absentee ballots. Because we moved our “permanent address” to our daughter’s home in Sycamore, IL we have requested an absentee ballot from DeKalb County, IL. We will be at a workcamping job in Fisher, Minnesota for the next two months so we had the ballot mailed to us at “General Delivery” to the post office in Fisher.
It would look like this:
Ken & Chris McCafferty
General Delivery
Fisher, MN 56723
Then the post office holds the mail until we come to collect it.
If you want to test this out, feel free to send a card with a check enclosed, or a winning lottery ticket, to our attention! We will let you know how it works out! (JK of course).
DeKalb County doesn’t have an on-line system for requesting a ballot. We needed to print out a hard copy of the form and mail it in. We don’t travel with a printer as it is additional weight and frankly we don’t need one enough to substantiate having one. So, we go to the local library, wherever we are, to print out anything we need.
At the moment we are working on additional Ireland posts, but are also enroute to Fisher, MN. We are currently set up near Muscatine, Iowa along the Mississippi River!!
