Annual Family Gathering

This past weekend Chris, Ken, all of the kids, and some of their significant others all traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah for their annual family gathering. This year was Sheila’s turn to organize the trip. She chose SLC.

Sheila had custom drink coasters made to commemorate the gathering.

To say it was amazing would be a huge understatement. Nothing could possibly make two parents happier than having all their kids, and the people they love, come together under one roof for a while.

We stayed at an Airbnb in “The Avenues” on the NW side of SLC. It was convenient for everything, beautiful, and managed 13 people very well.

While in SLC the kids had contrived a bit of a “Quit-irement” celebration for us. They organized an amazing steak dinner cooked by two personal chefs who came to the house to prepare the meal. They got many of our friends and family to either send cards or video messages congratulating us on our retirement. They had a really cool cake made for the occasion. The final surprise was a professional photo session with a photographer. Those pics will be posted once the photographer has applied the appropriate “filters”!

We were joined in SLC by Garret’s parents who drove up from Texas. This made us very happy!

As tourists in SLC, we visited two awesome outdoor markets in Park City and SLC, found four geocaches, walked around the McPolin Farm, and visited the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Conference Center and Tabernacle (this will be a separate, future post).

As a final note; If you sent a card or a video message, please know how much your effort meant to us. Tears of joy and appreciation were certainly shed. We appreciate you more than you can imagine. If you didn’t get a chance to send a card, it’s not too late. FYI, just to save you any embarrassment, most people sent along a crisp $100 bill. Haha! JK!

Please check out the pics below as there are picture captions that tell the story of the weekend.
