Tonight we had an impromptu air conditioning service call. We have NEVER seen an AC unit this iced up! The customer complaint was that the roof AC was dripping into the RV. The RV was just one lane over from our site! We are NOT RV Techs!! We are Certified RV Inspectors! We know enough of the “tech” part to troubleshoot our own rig and we do our best to avoid repairing anyone else’s rig! With that being said, we try to help out when we are able to. We removed the AC shroud and used a hair dryer to melt away the ice. The owners were encouraged to run the air conditioner fan on HIGH. Running the fan on high keeps the air flowing over the condenser coils and usually helps to prevent the freeze up. There is a thermistor strategically place that will also help prevent a freeze up! We got the ice melted and replaced the shroud. Good to go for the time being. The customer called us back a few days later with the same issue…”My AC is dripping water inside my RV!” The fins were again iced over, but not as bad as below. We were able to have them run the fan of the AC just long enough to melt the ice and had them back in business in no time! Fortunately, the dealer they purchased the RV from came out and replaced their AC unit. Since the replacement…no more icing up!
WE RVERY BLESSED
